JUSTIN (JUNG TAE) KIM

I am currently pursuing a doctoral degree in the Chemical & Biomolecular Engineering Department at UCLA under the supervision of Prof. Yuzhang Li. I have over three years of experience developing next-generation battery systems (Na-O2, Li-S, Li metal) for applications in grid-scale energy storage, flexible electronic devices, and high-performance electric vehicles. My current research is primarily focused on leveraging advanced characterization techniques, including cryogenic electron microscopy, to gain deep insights into the operational mechanisms and failure modes of next-generation batteries. The overarching goal of my research is to utilize newly gained insights as a foundation for identifying innovative engineering solutions that can effectively enhance overall battery performance.
